Genetic connection of anxiety: Anxiety comes from mother to daughter, father to son less likely to have this disorder

Genetic connection of anxiety: Anxiety comes from mother to daughter, father to son less likely to have this disorder

Anxiety (anxiety and nervousness) is genetically inherited from mother to daughter. However, the chance of passing the disorder from father to son is rare. The special thing is that if the father does not suffer from an anxiety disorder, then the probability that the son will also develop an anxiety disorder is low. According to Pavlova, an associate professor at the Department of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University in Canada, studies have shown that if both parents of a child have an anxiety disorder, then it is more likely to be passed on to the children.

anxiety transfer models

If a child develops an anxiety disorder as a result of modeling, then it will vary from mother to daughter and father to son. A study found that parents of same-sex children with anxiety were three times more likely to develop the same condition. After this study, the concern about such daughters whose mothers suffer from anxiety disorders has increased even more.

Please note that transgender individuals were not included in this study. On the other hand, even after the father has anxiety, the son is unlikely to have anxiety.

Children learn the habit of anxiety from parents

Another study found that children imitate their behavior from their parents. In this situation, they behave in the same way as parents do when they are worried. On the other hand, children are more likely to worry when their parents are worried.
