The roots of modern-day hair transplantation were first developed in Japan in the 1930s. In 1939, Japanese dermatologist Dr. Okuda described a surgical hair restoration procedure for burn victims. Later in 1943, another Japanese dermatologist, known as Dr. Tamura, refined Dr. Okuda's work and explained that each follicular unit contained from 1-4 follicular units to several hair roots. and is exfoliated to make an elliptical incision. The donor tissue and then each individual graft is dissected out.
